A Generous Spirit:
The importance of being generous can not be overstated. Some people seem to naturally have a generous spirit while others seem to get upset because they have to share the air that they breathe.
When most people think of giving or being generous with what they have, they usually think about money or their stuff. But giving is more then money, it is more than giving your stuff. As Christians we are meant to use all the things of this world to forward the kingdom of heaven. That means all of our giving.
The giving of our faith, the giving of our forgiveness, the giving of our time and yes, the giving of our stuff. As Christians we are not to be obligated to give. No, not at all. As Christians we are to give from a generous spirit. out of the gratefulness of our hearts. We give because we know that everything comes from GOD. E V E R Y T H I N G, our jobs, our family, our time here on earth, our salvation and yes, our stuff. All of it comes from Him. He gave it to us. We are meant to engage with it so that we could use it. All of it
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. (Mathew 23:23)
Justice. Mercy and Faithfulness, these are the weightier matters of the law. Bill and Ted had it right; “Be excellent to each other!”
The Importance Of A Generous Spirit:
As Christians, we are encouraged to use the things of this world to make friends so that we can bear fruit. “And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings. (Luke 16:9) Who are they? They are today’s non-believers, the people of this world. who will get into heaven because of what you give.
For your sake I encourage you to use what you have to move the kingdom forward with your giving, with your investment of time, with your forgiveness, with a generous spirit.
A Generous Spirit will Prosper:
The bible tells us that a generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. (Proverbs 11;25) and it doesn’t stop there. The bible is full of scriptures that remind us of the importance of sharing what we have.
The old testament tells us to give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. (Deuteronomy 15:10). Who is them? The same non-believers that Jesus talked about.
As mature Christian’s we don’t give for show or for rewards. We give because it has become our nature. The new testament puts it this way; “give that which is within as charity [that is, acts of mercy and compassion, not as a public display, but as an expression of your faithfulness to God], and then indeed all things are clean for you. (Luke 11:41).
A Generous Spirit Can Be Taught:
The Apostle Paul poured his heart, soul and time into Timothy. One of the things he told timothy was to; “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. (1 Timothy 6:18).
